josevizcaino915
I am wondering what to do. I have a lot of credit card debt and I don’t have a way of paying it back right now. I was hoping to avoid the credit card calls until I find a job and then call each credit card company and try to make payment arrangements, but it has been months since I have found a job and the credit card companies are calling me all the time and it is driving me crazy. I was hoping not to file bankruptcy but I think it is the best thing to do, because I have no assurance at the moment or in the near future that I will be able to pay them back. What do you think. Is there another way?Thank you,Jose VizcainoP.S. Should I wait until my credit cards are written off or should I file for bankruptcy which is a better idea overall. swirlgirl
Bankruptcy should be our last resort. How much total debt do you have? How many credit cards? When was the last time you made payment?
Robert Nashville/Savannah
Bankruptcy is very rarely the answer to a debt problem and even if it were so for you; filing bankruptcy is not “free”. If you have an overwhelming amount of debt you may end up having to file eventually but as was already said, even if it turns out to be an answer it is, or at least should be, the answer of last resort.Frankly, I believe you are focusing on the wrong issue…your debt is likely not your problem; your problem is an income problem and bankruptcy will do absolutely nothing to change that.I’m not trying to be mean here but I have a tough time believing someone when they say they “can’t” find a job. I can believe that they can’t find the job they really want or can’t find a job as good as the one they had or can’t find the job they want where they live…but not able to find a job at all…I just don’t buy it.I don’t know what needs to “change” for you but obviously something does…maybe you need to lower your expectations or maybe you need to go back to school or maybe you need to move to another county or state or look in a totally different industry than you were in or maybe you just need to spend more time looking.I can’t tell you precisely what you need to do differently but I can tell you that you need to do something different than you’ve been doing – if you keep doing the same thing over and over again; you can only expect the same results.I wish you well.
