goodwill on old accounts

I am wanting to write some goodwill letters to creditors that are paid off but have some late notices posted on my credit reports. The accounts have been paid off for at least a year some longer and don't have the account numbers any longer. The earliest late notice was about 5 years ago. Do I need to have the account numbers to write the letters? Thanks.
