Im sure this has been posted millions of time on here. This is my problem. I had several credit cards. After I was divorsed I still made payments and still used the cards to servive. I was able to afford the min. payment and was doing fine. The credit cards changed the min. payment requirment and it almost doubled my payment. I hire a credit card soulution company who took over. I paid them for two year and was suppost to save money. With gas and evrything going up it fell through on the saving part. Im still working with the company but I have had two law suits file against me in JP court (small claims). The first one I agreed to pay and the second one is coming up next month. The law suits are file by credit card collectors and not the credit card company. I was advised that I should contest this and I am unsure of the best way possible.

I'm still a bit of a newbie myself, but I have learned that a lot of the information I have questions about has already been asked (As you mentioned in your post) Everyone here is so good about answering question and genuinely wanting to help you which is one of the reasons I choose this site instead of someone of the others.

In my opinion it probably gets a little difficult to repeat the same answer several times so I would suggest doing a quick search through the forums. My preference is using the "show post"option so you can read through the list until you find what you want. Typically if I find one post that is talking about what I need, it usually leads to others.

Best of look and Welcome.

1. get a copy of your credit report- you are entitled to one free one each year from each of the 3 reporting agencies.

2. determine statute of limitations for your state- this starts from the time you made your last payment

3.make sure you answer the court summons according to jurisdictional procedure-file discovery

4. how do you know they own the debt? read up on debt validation

5. if it goes to court - make sure you show up- they may be willing to negotiate

6. most of your answers will be somewhere on this board

good luck
