I had that card it really sucks...like clever said stay away from them. I got the same letter 2 years ago. Watch out for first premier they are the same. I got the rewards 660 card, they are predatory but IMO they are better than most of the other sub-prime cards. They have decent CLI if you pay on time too, and do not go over limit. Also If you want to and feel comfortable with is trying store cards like Macys, JCP, Target Etc....

My best advice is to get a secured card from a Reputable bank or Credit union, and build on that. Their are many different ways to build credit, you just have to do whats best for you and what you feel comfortable with. I hope I helped with some info.:)

Total Visa, from a quick google search, is another subprime predatory lender with buku fees. You're beyond that. Go with a lesser-known prime bank.

Thanks guys...I already have the Target and Macy's...but I'm looking to get an actual Visa or Mastercard. Cause Target doesn't seem to want to give me a Visa. So I'm trying my luck with something else. My credit union actually offers a secure card, but I would have to put $500 in there. And then they will upgrade me to an unsecure.

Well for the record, Carnival Seamiles from Juniper was my first bankcard, and I had baddies.

I'm pretty sure you would either get that or Cap 1, which is really quite decent.

Carnival pulls TU, and Cap1 unfortunately pulls all 3, but is reasonably relaxed.

What kind of scores are you working with?

Right now i believe it's

TU 585, EX 480 EQ 500

Not so good...trying to remove my dismissed BK13. That is really affecting me.

Cav,

I had gotten a similar card in the beginning (Rewards 660) and I fired it after 6 months. A complete waste of money and time.

I started in addition to that with Macys and CJ. CJ helped out a lot, and that was with the initial $1500 (now they're hooking up with $2500).

I would try a HSBC card as they were able to give me love initially. I opened up with them in 1/08.

I also hear Crap 1 likes giving people love. Otherwise, with those scores, I would take the secured.

Honestly, and I'm guilty of this myself, I don't know why secured cards get such a bad rep. Yeah, the bad thing is that you're short x amount of dollars, but if you use it properly, you get it back after a year (and sometimes with interest, but in my case, I won't...but I wanted to strengthen my relationship with BOA so I didn't mind it in the end).

I would definitely get a secured, IMHO.

I know it's happening here and there, but just about everything I've been reading says TNB has put their upgrade program on hold for the most part.

I'm going on 18 months, no upgrade, APPLIED for the visa separately, and denied recently. Their portfolio is in sad shape.

That's not to say that I don't hope you get the upgrade, I do...but things aren't like they were a year ago when we were all hyping that card.

I'm with you on that one, with the ecomony and all. I don't know if they will be giving upgrades anytime soon more less the visa. i'm being a good girl and paying off my card on a monthly basis. We will see if it pays off.
