Bookie68
My daughter received a pre-qualified offer in the mail from Tribute Master Card and she went on line to sign up to receive the card. The credit line is $300. I looked at the offer and it stated the annual fee is a whopping $150 and there is a $29 account fee and $9.95/mo maintenance fee. The agreement states "After you receive your card, an initial minimum payment of $30 must be received, cleared and posted by us before you can activate your card and use your account." I told my daughter she needs to close this account and not use card. What is the best way to do that? I also see a phrase in Terms of Offer that states "You agree to repay all amounts due under the Agreement mailed to you" Can they still make her pay the $150 annual fee to close the account? Help please. I never even heard of Tribute Master Card. I told her it definitely must be a sub-prime card company if there is such a thing. Thanks for any advice you can give. sdott313
You should call them and find out if you dont activate the card will you still be responsible for the fees. i doubt they would hold your daughter responsible for the fees and card if she changes her mind and chooses not to activate it. swirlgirl
"After you receive your card, an initial minimum payment of $30 must be received, cleared and posted by us before you can activate your card and use your account." If you read this, it sounds like there would be a charge BEFORE the card could even be activated. I'd suggest you call them and verbally cancel the card. THEN, send them a letter (CMRR) restating that you called on ... date, spoke with... and per the telephone conversation, you wish to completely cancel the account. Also state that because you are cancelling before the account was used or activated, that you will not be charged for any fees. After you send the letter, you will want to follow up in 30 and 60 days just to make sure that the account was closed properly and that no fees were charged. Also keep an eye on her credit report.
brookencl28
I had the same thing happen to me. I never activated my account, however I received a statement in the mail saying I had to pay $20 by January 31st. I thought since I had not activated my account I would not be billed. After reading all of the reviews online about this card, I decided to call and close my account before the due date to avoid any issues! It was a very quick process and they did not give me any problems. They said I should receive a letter in the mail verifying my account being closed. Hopefully this helps!!
