cra disputes

Hello, new here. I have been reading all I can on this site, and have learned so much. I researched all I could, but have a lot of questions yet. Just found out after my fiance tried to buy a house, that his divorce decimated his credit. Apparantly his ex, whom he gave full financial control for 10 years, never paid anything. Ever. Really. Sooo, I have his cr's from the big 3 and are prepared to dispute. Questions...

1. Do I wait til disputes w/ cra's are done, then start sending out dv requests to the ca's, or do it simultaneously.

2. Just a little at a time, right?? There's 20-some things we need to try and understand on his cr's. Don't want to overwhelm the cra's.

3. I know there is no quick cure, but don't give up, right?

4. Some things are coming off in 2009, should I just leave them be? That's a little confusing to me still.

5. If he pays the legitimate accounts, will that be better than just leaving them alone? I know they will still be listed as derogatory, but...

6. All ca accounts and charge offs are 2-6 years old, can I still send out dv's to these and honestly expect any reply?

I appreciate any replys, TIA, Leslie.

I did ours simutaneously.

This may help... I started with the oldest things first. About 3 at a time.

Right! We started out with quite a few collections and charge offs. We're now down to 1-- and we have a PFD for it. It only took a year.

4. Some things are coming off in 2009, should I just leave them be? That's a little confusing to me still.

I believe it depends on when in 2009 it falls off. If it's Jan/Feb, I 'd leave it alone. Also depends on what the item is and how much it's for.

5. If he pays the legitimate accounts, will that be better than just leaving them alone? I know they will still be listed as derogatory, but...

I went for a PFD (pay for delete) on the legitimate accounts. You could try that.

Now that depends on the CA. Some of ours replied to our DV, while others ignored them. But they eventually came off with the use of the BBB and 623 with the OC.

I would dispute them all with various reasons and send Certified Mail on or about December 5th.

Why December 5th?

Because buy the time they get the disputes is will be December 10-12th. They have 30 days to complete the investigation. There are a few holidays in there which are counted as days and the day before xmas and new years eve, who works anyway. They should also be short staffed at the CRA and the OC.

Your best bet is to wait the few weeks and take a chance getting all of them at once with all of the holidays in there.

Did you mean to wait til I hear back from cras before sending out dv's?

It has been recommended that disputes be sent around the holidays when the CRAs are busy. If they don't verify the disputed information within 30 days, then they must delete it.

I imagine that that is what legal_loansharking was suggesting.

What you want to do with collection accounts is the one - two punch as well. Here is the best link I can come up with that explains it,

We used to slam the CRAs with a holiday dispute en masse (ie: everyone from CIC and CB,etc submitting these at the same time. With folks out on vacation, intermittent holidays (T-giving, Xmas, NYs), they would often fail to complete the investigation by 30 days and lots of deletions followed.

With e-oscar, that has little to no effect these days. Sorry.:(
