calidebt
My Dad received a call from Receivables Performance Management this morning. I've dealt with a few collections agencies in the past, so I knew to google them before calling them myself. I found some really horrible accounts posted online from folks who've dealt with them - vulgar language, threats, avoiding to send back the green slips from the USPS for DV letters, etc. Like I said, I've dealt with a few of these agencies before, so I know the drill: get everything in writing, tell them they can't contact anyone but me (no more family members), they need to verify that they have the right to collect the debt, etc. The agencies I was in contact with in the past were rude, but played by the rules. This agency seems to be a whole other ballgame. I haven't called them yet, but I wanted to get some advice as to how I should proceed. I know I'll need to contact them so they won't call my Dad again, but I'm afraid to get this ball rolling if they're difficult from the start. I'm mostly afraid of pissing them off by exercising my rights (which of course I know I'm allowed to do) and having them go rogue and call more family members and generally disregard any normal way to proceed with this.Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

calidebt
I appreciate the response, but can you move my post back to where it was? I was looking for advice on how to handle a CA that doesn't play by the rules. Some of the information you sent me was valid, but not if the CA flat-out ignores the law. I was also curious if there were others out there who had experience with this particular CA.thanks.
