bunny2
Hi all I thought this issue was over a couple of years ago but here goes. almost two years ago I was given a summons to answer re: a cap one account I used to have, that was in the hands of a collection lawyer. It said I had to reply within a certain #days. I did, I sent a letter explaining that it was my understanding that the debt was covered by the ins program I had on it (I'm on SS disab, with a small parttime job) I never heard anything back. This was first of Jan 2007, Last week I got a letter from the court for a "status hearing" (Panic attack, big time) Phone numbers I had for the lawyer were no good. Phone call to court indicates that the letter was generated at the request of the judge. BUT, tonight I ordered credit reports from all three agencies, and the amounts for this debt have been updated recently and MORE THAN DOUBLED. It was supposed to be settled. Is this a way someone is using to get money from me. I'm meeting with a Bankruptcy lawyer tommorrow but I don't have enough money to file yet and don't know if I should. Anyone have any suggestions

henry1018
I would think your meeting with your attorney tomorrow would be your best source of information and answers.
willingtocope
No real advice I can offer...but here's a couple of comments. A "status hearing" is usually just that...the judge has had it in his files for awhile, and wants to know what's going on. Just plan on showing up, along with whatever documentation you have regarding the insurance. You should probably also discuss this with the BK lawyer. During the initial consulation, they'll usually give some advice on such matters.
