State tax lien showing on my CRs, but the county clerk can't find it..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I called the county clerk to request a copy of the file. I said I have a state tax lien showing on my credit report. they sent me to several departments. I gave them every reference number on my credit report pertaining to the tax lien entry, nothing showed up. I gave them my name, any alias, nothing. They even tried searching by my social.

Should I now dispute this with the CRAs?

What is my next step in getting this removed? What do I do, and what do I NOT do?

Thank you all very much for the input.

I had a tax lien on my reports that I thought I was stuck with. I diputed with all 3 CRAs and it was deleted from 2 of them. EQ verified. About 4 months later I sent a letter requesting their method of verification since the other 2 were unable to verify the info. Note, I wasn't disputing, just requesting info. The same day they received my letter, the lien showed "reinvestigation in progress". About two weeks after that the lien was removed from my EQ report.

Good luck with it.

contact your state dept of revenue or your state tax office. Sometimes state liens don't show up at your local county office.

Thanks. Good info.

I would think that the CRAs will verify by checking with the county office that is showing on THEIR report. This item is showing as a "public record".

Does this sound like what someone else has experienced? I am sending out the dispute letters Monday.

Thanks again for any input.
