In particular, a debt collector site. I can't believe how big of jerks some of these guys are. xheadscratchx It's like some of them thrive on causing serious harm to the debtor's financial and emotional situation. I am really grateful that there are boards like this out there where people can find a little bit of support when they are being attacked by some of these jerk offs. It's one thing to attempt to collect money and it's quite another thing to torment with malicious intent. I've never been one of the ones that say that all collectors are evil but now I'm really starting to lean towards that assumption.

Found a few of our "members" over there as well. No big surprises though.:lol:

A very large percentage of the people who work at collection agencies are just like us...trying to make a living...probably over-extended...doing what they're told. Most work from a script. Most don't last very long because they just can't muster up the nastiness it takes to be successful.

The ones that frequent the collector's sites are another breed entirely. They've found a way to make big bucks by letting their natural personality come through. You find some of them in every business.

My first job as a computer consultant...I was told by the VP I reported to...here's a list of the 100 biggest companies in your area...start at the top of the list and work down...promise them anything to get the job...as long as we get paid, we don't care if what we leave behind works or not...by the time you get to the end of the list, everyone you screwed at the other companies will be gone, and you can start over again at the top. (I didn't last long at that job).

:censored: That's seriously crappy and I really really hope that I teach each of my children to be a better person than that. I'm one of these nicey nice people who seriously feels no ill will towards anybody, (not counting AT&T and the exhubby's little mistress ). Maybe that is why I am so appalled at how some of these people are, at what their nature is. I truly don't understand it. xshotx

Some of the more extreme ones sound like they are getting off on it! Makes you wonder if they are chopping up people in "real" life. Enjoying another's pain and fear is what some psychos thrive on.

Nah, I'd bet most of them are really glad that there's a phone between them and the people they're confronting.

Yup, thats why they use fake names. When I first got involved in this I was so PO'd by the way the collector talked to me, I was ready to head on down to San Antonio, and that is the only reason I started doing research on fighting back and found this type of board/forum.

I've met some of them in person. I honestly wouldn't generalize in saying that they are all scumbags, jerks etc. That seems to be the way most of them are, but the ones I've met thought that you can collect in a civilized and subtle way. If one of them want you to pay, it's not quite their fault. They just need the money that the debtor hasn't paid. Now I like to respect people until they give me a reason not to respect them. So if a collector harasses you, that would give you a valid reason to dislike that person in particular.

Not to sour the happy mood, but I would expect as the economy continues to circle the drain, then the collectors will only get nastier as defaults rise.

A worsening attitude might not be by choice. Some might be stuck in a job that's a paycheck with nothing on the horizon.

Those who fall behind, might have fewer and fewer options.

Turning the frown upside down, if you should fall victim to an abusive CA, then by being here and reading you might be better prepared to fight back and win.

Now stay here and keep your nose clean...LOL8-)

I'm not visiting that site again don't worry! I read one or two threads and was just appalled!

I was actually doing a yahoo search on a member here I was curious about and it led me there. Not like curious in a love connection kinda way but just curious in general......
