lovebug5
...So my last post regarding a request for a CLI with Cap 1 was in May of 2008, I believe. I thought on a whim that I'd call their retention line today, after one year of having the card, to see if they could do anything for me.Despite having over 1 year of a perfect payment history, including utilization and PIF'ing monthly, they could not grant me a CLI. I will be receiving a letter within 2 weeks. On top of that, they could not enroll me in any of their rewards programs.Would you like to hear the funny part? The representative told me that, given the current economic situation, I have the best card available. *laughing* Given Cap1's crappiness, I'm really tempted to apply for a Chase card, sock drawer the Cap1 card for good and hopefully grab some better treatment from Chase. Hmmm....
Dre
That sounds like a perfect plan to me! Go Chase go !
lovebug5
I've been trying to figure out if I'll even be eligible for a Chase card, seeing as how I have a WaMu card...Hmph. It'd be nice though. I shall ponder this one for awhile.
Dre
Yea, I haven't heard anything further about if or when Chase will be transferring our accounts over to from WaMu. I hope Chase gives us their love and doesn't close our CC accounts. HA!

Bigwoodystyl
I've been trying to figure out if I'll even be eligible for a Chase card, seeing as how I have a WaMu card...Hmph. It'd be nice though. I shall ponder this one for awhile. Chase allows you to have up to 5 personal credit cards. That is, the possession of a WaMu card would not cause your app to be declined.Although, with Chase, if you have one credit card account, you can transfer it to any of the over 100 different accounts they offer, including the co-branded accounts (Amazon, Marathon, Speedway, Starbucks, and all the universities, et al.). I wouldn't know if this applies to the WaMU portfolio... yet. If not, it's just a matter of time. It's a problem of integration, and not underwriting guidelines. If you have a WaMu card and want a Chase card, the easiest thing to do would be to wait until the systems are fully integrated. That is, until you are calling Chase customer service for assistance with your account. At that point, you can ask for an account transfer to any of their other products. (I'd recommend the Freedom card.)However, I'd estimate Chase will cut (or sell) a lot of WaMu accounts that they don't want prior to integration. They may also decide not to cut any accounts for fear of bad press. They may instead keep the accounts they'd like to cut, but put them into a closely watched portfolio that cannot be moved to other products. The majority of the WaMu accounts, though, will be able to be transferred at customer request and will be assimilated to the Chase brand within the year.disclaimer:I'm speculating, because I have no firsthand knowledge of this, and this is a crazy market and these are uncertain times. This is just the way it's always worked previously with large card issuing subsidiaries.
lovebug5
Great reply, Big...I'd like to add to it as well.I received a letter in the mail yesterday from Chase, preparing me for their takeover of the WaMu cards during the March billing cycle. It is pretty clear from the letter that they are choosing which WaMu consumers to keep and throw out of the window, as my "preferred status" with WaMu and "excellent credit relationship" with them will be causing my card to automatically switch to a Chase Platinum when the system merger has completed. That being said, I also received a letter from Cap 1 explaining why the denied my CLI request. Apparently the denial is due to my BK from 2007, despite the fact that they approved me for a card just a few months post-BK...This is interesting to me and somewhat laughable, although in this economy I shouldn't be surprised. cap1kid
Chase Platinum is a very nice card-out of the blue I got a pre-approval from Chase for the Platinum. 9.9% 5000 limit!!- and you get a lot of little buyer protections if you read the fine print.....
