CreditJunky
Once a private student loan has been referred to a collection agency, can the Original Creditor reverse this action? I defaulted on a private loan through the Univ of California and recently received a letter from the collection agency requesting payment...some company named Wyndham Professionals. My first reaction is to DV, but I'm sure they have my promissary note. I intend to pay the loan, but not to the collection agency. What shoud I do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I start my path to fixing my credit...

LynnInMN
I think I left out on the other board you posted on that CA's are hired under contract. They have responsibility and fiscal rights to whatever is paid on the account for the period of the contract. Thus since the school is legal bound to pay the CA, they will automatically refer directly to the CA. Inhouse collections at most schools are swamped...they are not going to waste time when they are paying someone else to collect from you.
