secondchances
In reading other threads, I have a CA that is trying to collect for their fees; I paid the principle amount owed directly to the OC. Can the CA continue to add additional interest to the unpaid fee balance? Thanks!
LUEser
This depends on a lot of things. What kind of debt was it? Moreover, was it a sold debt collected on by a JDB?
secondchances
LUEser, It was for unpaid tuition. The CA is Security Credit Systems out of NY and I think they are just collection for the school although I may be wrong. The amount owed was for approximately $500 and I paid it directly to the school after I got a call from the CA. The CA is not billing me the balance with was around $150.00 in fees. Thanks for your response and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

LUEser
So they're just trying to collect fees on an account that's already been settled with the original creditor. This is one of those occasions I would pit the OC against the CA and let them sort if out amongst themselves. Make the CA show you they have the right to collect any fees and that they were authorized to do so by the OC (the university). They'll get it sorted out and be fighting with each other and you'll probably be able to slink away unnoticed. Worst case scenario, the contract signed between the OC and CA had in it that the CA could charge a collection fee. If that's the case, direct the CA to the OC and let them know that they broke the contract by accepting your money and that the OC is the one the CA needs to talk to about why they're not getting paid their "commission fees." secondchances
Thanks for the reply. I sent a letter to the CA asking for a breakdown of their fees and a copy of the contract I signed at the school that says that I agree to these fees in the event I default on payment. I also have a copy of the cancelled check that I paid to the school and they deposited it. I am going to wait to hear back from the CA. I have disputed it with Experian and Transunion, where it is being reported.
