Take it from someone who used those services, they will do nothing for you that you can't do yourself. I used them for about 5 months last year and they didn't do much to improve my credit. It will take the same amount of time regardless of who writes the letters, so patience is required.

In addition to what JT said, think about it this way....

When you do it yourself you get the following benefits:

1. The ability to save yourself money. You save this money, and you can use it to pay your other bills on time instead of lining the pockets of a scam company.
   
2. You do the work and feel better when you start seeing progress.
   
3. You always know what is going on... no need to have to call a company so they can put you on hold or keep delaying your questions.
   
4. Maybe the most important of all.... You educate yourself on how credit works and why it's important to make sure you don't get in over your head. You come through your journey knowing that the road was bumpy enough that you have learned your lessons and hopefully won't make the same mistakes that got you there in the first place. This is something that NO credit repair scam will ever teach you. You either learn this on your own, or not at all.

I would like to add that it really does not take a lot of time. You can allot 1-2 per week and still get a lot done.

Agreed, but I was talking about all of the time waiting. While it doesn't take much of your time actually doing it. it takes a long time for the results.

The credit repair scam artist will have to wait the same amount of time that the OP will wait. The credit repair people will just charge the OP for their services. Personally, I don't see how going through a credit repair place is going to get them any farther than if they just do it themselves. Besides, the credit repair place isn't going to give them the "free" education that they are getting here, by doing it on their own.
