Brother's info on my credit

ok.. I received notice that my credit limit was being lowered on a credit card I have had for over 6 years. They said due to drop in credit rating. My rating I knew should NOT have dropped. I went on line to truecredit and pulled a free transunion report. It is reporting my brothers name, my birthday, Previous addresses (which one is really my current) and my current as my brothers. When you look at the report it shows all of my credit but also his. Our ss# are exactly the same except for the very last number. What is the fastest and easiest way to correct this. Also, I have a balance of $580 on my cc but they lowered my limit to $85... I am not going to get over limit fees but can not pay off my balance yet. My credit has gone from a 700 and something down to 688 per truecredit. My brother has a couple of late but I have NONE. I am also testing for a large fire department and they check credit next month. I do not want this to hurt me when they pull this.

I sent a copy of my DL, SS card, and a letter stating the mishap on my credit report to all the credit agencies.

Same thing happened with my mother and I; similar names. I disputed these items on my credit report, sent a letter to each credit agencies (with the above items), and everything was fixed.

With the credit cards, you will need to call up the companies, but they will probably ask you for the same thing.

Sucks about the mix up, but it'll all work out in the end; don't ignore it and let your fire department (if they ask) show them the paperwork.

Thanks for the information. It has not been a year since my brothers last credit report but he is wanting to see if the mix up is also on his report. Plus when he tries to go online to get a copy it says that it can not be given over the internet. Why would this be and how can he still get a copy of his report for free to see if his is also wrong?

It could be the mix up you're having at the moment since you said his information is being confused with his. He can try calling the CRA and see what they say. It might help out to talk with a live person since this is a confusing situation; could help in him getting his reports.
