I just got home and found a pink slip on my door saying that a certified letter from credit one is waiting for me requiring my signature could this be a summons should i sign for it , what happens if it is a summons?

I never sign the pink slip for certified letters. If I suspect that a suit has been filed against me, I go to the court house and request a copy, claiming I never got served(make sure you tell them you never got served because they will charge you $1/page and if they included monthly statements you could have a whopper of a bill). My experience is that if you tell them you never got served, then they will not charge you.

Now why not sign? Well my good friend who is a paralegal and who has helped me with my credit issues says there is no reason to provide "them" with your signature. To be honest, I never totally understood this rational because as soon as I respond to the summons by way of my Answer, I have done just that when I sign the Answer and Appearance. Maybe nascar or recovering lawyer could elaborate on their opinion of this and weather my paralegal friend's view holds any weight.

I understand the concerns some people have regarding signatures. It's pretty well known that a good many debt collectors and collection attorney have been know to forge a document or two.

However, I don't recommend avoiding service, either. Here's a compromise - when you pick up the pink slip, sign your name using a writing style you've never used before. That way, you can sign for the document and if another document shows up with the odd signature on it, you'll know it was a forgery.

Just another 2 cents...

If you have a Driver's License, you probably have a middle name on said Driver's License.

So, when you go to pick up the pink slip, just use your middle and last name only. But, do so in a different writing style as nascar suggested. Not too many people use their middle name when the conduct business in the average day. This should work for some, probably not all.
