trsteele
There is a local vendor I did business with. I amm not disputing I owe him payment for services. My wife lost her job last year and the income in my household has been cut by almost 50% since that time. I spoke with the vendor and explained my condition and told him as soon I can I will start making payments on my bill. He sent several faxes to my office public fax machine with nasty notes about me not paying my bills. I contacted him and asked he not send information about my personal business with him to my employers. This past friday he sent a certified letter to my employer not addressed to me but my employer with a copy of the invoice and all the correspondence we have had with each other. What are my options at this point?
unusualsuspect
Sue for harassment and invasion of privacy. He's doing everything to embarrass you publicly about this bill. A good place to start is 3 times what you owe him plus punitive damages.
willingtocope
"vender?"..."did business with?"...."services?"Really, we need more information. If this was some kind of business deal, then none of the protections of the FDCPA or FCRA apply. Even if they do, if this is the original creditor, then they can be pretty much as nasty as they want in trying to collect. If this is a building contractor or mechanic, they also can be nasty.Informing your employers IS going a bit fa, but I would bet that if you brought suit, the first thing the judge would as is..."do you owe these fine people money?".
