Email Contact from a CA

Recommended Posts

Tonight I logged into my personal email account because I haven't checked it in a while. Well low and behold, a collection agency rep sent me an email about "personal business". As creepy as it seems, I'm sure they got my email from Truecredit or Credit Check Total.

This is what the email said:

Please call me or reply to this email to discuss a personal business matter.

This is not regarding a solicitation.

Thanks in advance and have a great day.

Does email contact from a collector have to conform to the same rules as a dunning letter? Does it have to say "this is an attempt to collect a debt"? I can see it going both ways considering this guy could be firing off an email to an incorrect email addy. Then again, if he did obtain it from a CRA, they know it belongs to me.

The term "communication" means the conveying of information regarding a debt directly or indirectly to any person through any medium.

"Any medium" would seem to include Email.

More than likely the answer would be yes.
