Is opportunity ringing?

Recommended Posts

Here's one for the board!

I was about to respond to another post on this board when my cell phone rings with a call from a 781 area code. There is an automated message on the other end for someone who is not me "John Doe". It says this is not a sales call and if I am not "John Doe" please tell him to call us at this number 866-***-****.

I'll take the best advise from the board, follow it and post the whole process.

Did you reference the number on the net to find out who placed the call?

Do you have a recorder? If so, get a recording of the message and any future calls.

If you can find out who it is, you could send them a letter and threaten to sue for $1,500 per call. They likely will not respond. Then, you could sue. They would likely respond and offer to settle.

I have gotten a number of these calls for the previous owner of my cell phone number.

I call them back, and I tell them John Doe does not have this number anymore, and I don't know who John Doe is, and will they please remove my number from their files. And they do, and they don't call me again.

Suing for a wrong number? Good luck with that.

DH

I'll look the number up and see if i find any hits.

I am really only using this as a test. I really don't expect any thing to come from this. Since this I am not the person they are looking for, they may do the right thing and stop calling. Which is fine by me.

/me agrees with DH

FWIW, do what DH says. THEN if they keep at it, after being notified, then you may have something against them. In the last few years after being on this board I have noticed when I get a 800 number calling my cell I get a bit happy and immediately think of the impending lawsuit hell I'm about to rage on the buggers....but alas, they all go away after I tell them I'm not who they're looking for :-)

Ok called back the number in the cell phone, got this answer "Hello this Mr. Wilson's office". I told them I was returning a phone call to my cell phone. He asked what is the number, I told him. He said we are looking for a Mr. "John Doe". I said "I am not him," and he said he would remove the number.
