Peoples Gas Chicago

I couldn't find a similar thread using search. Here is my deal. I checked my credit today and noticed a new late payment on my account. The account in question is for my gas bill (Peoples Gas of Chicago). Technically speaking the bill was late. The situation is I did not receive a bill. I just signed up for electronic billing with my bank. There was lapse in the billing and I never received either my e-bill or paper bill. Once i saw this on my crr, I immediately called the gas provider and paid up (including he transaction fee). The bill was a whopping 20 dollars but it is killing my score because of how recent it is. The customer service rep said she could not reverse the crr as a sign of good will. Any advice???

Thanks in advance

Sorry but this one you are probably going to be stuck with. I've dealt with People's before when I lived there and even when their reporting is wrong, they refuse to correct. I sued them and won a civil judgment on one where they dinged my wife for reporting a late on an account where they had not turned off the gas when we moved because the landlady had locked them out of the building (which is a violation of the Chicago Landlord Tenant Ordinance and fire codes). The judge ruled against them and they still refused to correct.

In your case, the payment was late. Regardless of circumstance, you owed the money and it was not paid timely, so their reporting is accurate.

As a utility, settled, and being less than $100, this will only affect your score for six months to a year. Then it won't have any impact at all.
