frustratedguyhere01
If an account has been charged off and given to a third party, does making a settlement with the third party have any affect to the charge off account? Basically, if I pay the JDB, do they tell the OC that I settled payment and the OC would note that in the charge off?
myhouse
I think you are still confusing "charged off" with "sold". The OC can "charge off" without selling. If a CA comes in to collect, that doesn't mean they bought the debt, nor does it make them a JDB. You need to find out who actually owns the debt before you can proceed. If, in fact, the OC DID sell the debt, they are out of it completely, and your credit report SHOULD state that the debt was sold, not merely charged off (although it could show both). Paying the new owner of the debt will not affect the OC's entry on your credit report in the least. The OC's entry will still state "sold", and the JDB's entry will show "paid collection". Amerikaner83
If your report shows the oc acct having a 0 balance then that means the oc is to you irrelevant, and the 3rd party is the sole person to matter. The 'charge off' language means nothing to you. Learn to ignore it. If there is still balance showing on the oc account then the 3rd party is just collecting on behalf of the oc. And that situation you have a slightly better chance of paying the oc and removing the 3rd party off your reports in one swoop via a settlement directly with oc.
