funnyandnice
I see on the dispute letters there is a line that says to show a drivers license or bill copy for proof of identity, do i need to send this? i already had them printed off when i realized i forgot to add that.thanks
Methuss
If you do not include identification with your letter, then they can legally ignore it.I had a small stack of letterhead copied with a scan of my driver's license in the lower end of the page. That way I could just feed it through a printer and the DL is embedded in the letter (so they can't claim they lost it or that it wasn't included). Methuss
Technically, under the FCRA the only thing you need provide is a copy of a State-issued identificaiton card. That's the standard for ID-Theft victims. It would be ludicrous that someone with less of a problem would be held to a higher standard for identification. However, the address change does pose an interresting question of what they should do and what would be responsible of them to do. I would not be offended if they asked for something more to prove change of address, if it was me. I would rather they took steps to prevent ID-Theft than make it so easy that a file could be hijacked with a simple change of address trick. If you did a post office forwarding from your old to new address, you could see if the post office can give you something to show it. USPS is a quasi-government agency so it would be hard to reject proof like that. I would not give bureaus tax forms though. Earnings and tax liabilities are none of their business, but something they would love to keep records on I am sure..
funnyandnice
Thanks, this is actually for my wife, we got married a few years ago and obviously she moved and the bureuas still have her old address so i was wondering how they might handle the license and return address being different from what they currenlty have. should i include a separate letter explaining the move.thank you
