sb1234
Early December I sent out a couple PFD letters. How long does it normally take to hear back? Thanks
BrokenCredit
Did you send them certified return receipt, so that you can determine when they signed for the letters? There is no time frame for a CA to respond to you.
willingtocope
No well to tell. Depends on who, what, when...You may get an agreement, a counter offer, or a summons...

sb1234
Yes, I sent them certified. If they are ignored, is there a time frame I should resend another PFD letter in? Or assume they don't want to work with me? I've never gotten a bill/statement from either collection agency, just found them on my CR. (they are legit, dr bills)
BrokenCredit
Who did you send the PFD? Was it to the CA or the original creditor?
sb1234
I sent them to the CA. Did I do it wrong? There's so much info my head is spinning!
BrokenCredit
Do you know for sure that the collection agency bought the debt or did the medical provider assign the account to them? The reason I ask, is if they are working for the medical provider, then you can call them and negotiate with them. Let me know.
sb1234
Oh, ok, so I should contact the medical facility itself and not the CA? I'm not sure if it was sold, is there a way to find out? I have received nothing from either one of them in MONTHS!! Never received anything from CA. I was actually paying the medical facility anywhere from $10-$50 every time I would get a statement, and then they stopped coming. Should I call or write a letter? Yes, OK it is from your doctor and you have gotten service from him but you have also made payments. one of the important functions of a DV letter is to show how the balance due was calculated. I have been overcharged by my doctors and dentists. The office manager would tell me everything was fixed and then the collection agency would call
sb1234
Ohhhh, I never thought about that!! I did dispute them on the CR and got most of them off my CR (there were over 20), but there are still 3 of them on there (same DR, different visits according the OC and CA). So, should I sent a DV letter? To who? Medical Facility? I called both yesterday, they were both less than helpful!! And unwilling to take settlement. cinnamngrl
A DV letter is sent to the collection agency. A 623 is sent to the original creditor

Guest usctrojanalum
Medical professionals typically do not sell their debts, it is not impossible (I'm sure some doctor, hospital, dentist out there does) but really not likely. It is not like doctors maintain portfolios of their past due receivables and shell them out to bidders they are way too busy with other stuff and are not really caught up in that garbage. sb1234
Please excuse my ignorance, I understand what you're saying, but I'm not sure what I should do. Do I need to send a validation letter? To whom? The CA is reporting on our CR. Is there anything that we can do? I've tried to work out arrangements, but they want us to pay more than we can afford, so CA won't set anything up and act like total jerks when I talk to them! I've called medical provider, and they say there is nothing they can do, it all has to be done through CA. I even asked for a 50% settlement and they won't do it! Specifically ask for billing records that show how this balance was calculated. Ask them who owns this debt. the Drs Office may have sold it to them or assigned it to them. if it is only assigned then they can't PFD.
