McG
Everytime I pay down my 2 cards with them - most recently $1500, they lower my limit so I am almost maxed out again, which does nothing to help my score and only hurts me. It's clear they don't want me as a customer and I'm considering closing my two cards to keep them from lowering my limits even more. Since I'm already maxed out, would it be bad to close my accounts? Can they raise my rates or screw me some other way?
Guest usctrojanalum
Chase did this to me too. I had a 1k balance on a card with an $1100 balance and I paid it off to 0. They immediately lowered my CL to $400. 2 months ago I paid down a 3.8k balance on a 4k CL but they have not decreased my limit on this card... yet. I sort of expect them too but I'm not sure. I've been trying to rid my life of CC's completely, but it's not always feasible.

Read your cardmember agreement, and see what it says about an account being closed at the consumer's request. It may have some helpful information.
