Garnishment Rendered In Ohio Help Plz.

Recommended Posts

My wife works for a small company, so when her garnishment was sent to her place of employment, she was able to secure it herself (they have no corporate office in this country). The garnishment is for a past-due hospital bill from Bethesda. Although I had medical insurance coverage on her through my employer, for some reason they did not pay it. I'm assuming since the garnishment has been rendered by the court, we don't have any options at this point (wage withdraw has not yet begun)? What I'm really interested in is if we have any payment options that we can agree upon with the court to avoid actual employer involvement at this point? Thank you for your help.

I would go/call to court and talk to a clerk. From what I have seen a lot of people file various motions to a judge to postpone garnishments and negotiate various payment arrangements with the debt owners. I would also call the creditor to try to negotiate with them on a schedule of some sort to pay off the judgment. They can usually do something like this, but will make you sign a contract, so be careful what you sign, because there might be additional fees and interest involved. I don't think there is any law at this point that will prevent them from garnishing it from the employer, and it's really up to them for the most part, but you can always ask them and the judge to work with you to help your situation.

Thank you for the reply. I will call the courts on Wednesday to see what my options are. Fortunately (I hope) the law firm is not one of those bad-debt buyers who just want to turn a quick buck. They are actually representing Bethesda Health who still owns the debt. I'll post back when I get results.
