GertschMom1121
Holy cow, I think I'm overthinking the process. Sometimes it seems so easy and sometimes I get lost. I'll keep it short.I have 2 or 3 collections I want to remove. They're fairly new, I recognize them, and admit to being responsible. They're all listed on my CR with the OC name and the CA address (all bundled into one).Should I still dispute them? And do I start with the CRA? Or should I just send a DV to the CA? Or a PFD to the OC?Goodness my head's spinning..... Any help is appreciated.
getting_ahead2
As I understand it, and I MAY BE WRONG butthe 623 Method is for the OC and this is when your are disputing within the TL, DLA or amount...Did you receive a letter from any of these people? or you are just 'poking the sleeping bear'? Are these things in or out SOL?If you receive a letter most likely its a CA and write them a DV letter certified.Don't be too quick to do a PFD unless you have the funds to do it.I started a little work book in a binder for my things - the old ones are out of SOL for me.the new one's I did send a DV to activate the FPCPA... I plan to settle on the outstanding 2 - later.
GertschMom1121
I guess I'm just poking the bear in hopes he'll take the honey and leave They're all within the SOL. I haven't gotten anything from any of them (that I know of). I found these little surpirses on my report a couple months ago when I was denied a mortgage (yay me! )So maybe dispute with CRAs? Then take it from there?

Any help is appreciated. If they are still fairly new and your CR doesn't show the OC TL as sold to another lender or something along those lines I would definitely bypass the CA and go straight to the OC and see if they will work with you and pull it back from the CA. If the OC refuses to deal with you then I would send a PFD to the CA as long as you can PIF. If the CA recently acquired the debt they may not be as willing to settle for a much smaller amount than they would with a very old debt. Have you got dunning letters from the CAs yet? All of my info above may not matter if you haven't gone through the DV process yet. I wouldn't pay unless they could prove legal standing for collecting. Unless, of course, you need it removed quickly in which case the PFD is the way to go. Edited March 15, 2011 by creditcrunched
getting_ahead2
This may sound backward- BUT this is what I did.I disputed online and THEN turned around and mailed DV.I got a response back from one (MCM) asking documents to support my online dispute claim and then they receive my DV a couple of days later. It's a waiting game really - But keep all your mailed information - It's hard to tell with CA's oh yeah and remember if they agree to any settlement be sure to remember to include in your letter that they cannot 'sell' the remaining amount to anyone else...or something of that nature. GertschMom1121
Nope, no letters or anything. BUT right around the time these started becoming late, we were in the process of moving (a couple times thanks to a lay-off) so they may have sent the information and I just never got them. The few in question would be ones that I can PIF. They're all under $300 or so and I've pulled myself above water over the last couple months.
