Twitchrdrm
I attempted to settle a debt w/ K&T which they are collecting on behalf of The Bureaus Inc. for an old HSBC credit card from 2008. They will only offer me 3900.00 as a settlement and claim that The Bureaus will not accept my offer of 2600.00I almost paid the debt for the amt they won't budge on but what worried the most is that K&T can't put this in writing until they basically have my billing info to pay it off. I refused to pay them the 3900 w/o a letter. My question is now what do I do? I did join ecredit attorney a few weeks ago and they have sent letters out disputing the amounts so should I just sit back and hope that the letter thing works? At the end of the day I want this off of my CR's, any advice would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has delt w/ The Bureaus or Kirlin & Tate please let me know. I find it very funny that The Bureaus is not registered to collect debts in the state of IL where I live and where their offices are...
BV80
I would contact the Division of Professional Regulation in Illinois, and tell them about The Bureaus. I saw that they filed as a corporation. Tate & Kirlin is licensed as a collection agency.

Another thing I would do is document (through letters and recorded calls) your attempts to settle and their refusal to talk without your billing info. Should this go to court, it will paint them in a very unfavorable light.
