What state? Strange residency.

Hi! New here, just starting to clean up some not so hot blemishes that are on my CRs. Most things are smaller collections and I'm going to work on a lot of asking for settlements and PFDs if my disputes fall through. Easy peasy, right? Just sent off the first of my disputes to the CRAs today, so we'll see what happens.

My question for negotiation purposes is going to be SOL and my residency. From what I read, most creditors (and the agencies) go by your current state. I'm a military spouse and because of recent legislation, I was able to maintain my AZ residency even though we currently reside in NY. The debts that are listed however are all from when I was a Kentucky resident prior to moving to AZ and getting my residency there. I haven't dug into it a lot, but I think AZ is the most consumer friendly out of the bunch. If I'm correct in this assumption, can I go by the AZ SOL for my debts?

How likely do you think the CA's would claim that it should be NY or even KY? I'm so confused! :?

It's really going to depend on how and where they sue you. It's a complicated answer with no clear cut and dry response. If you ever did get sued, it's something that could be discussed more in depth at that time.

I'm not sure any of the debts are large enough for them to sue honestly. I may end up doing some negotiation for PFD on quite a few, I just want to make sure they are valid debt, because some of them are questionable if I actually still owe the money.

Any ideas about what state's collections laws would apply in the meantime? I know some states have various restrictions in addition to the Federal regulations.
