Hello. Thank you for your time. I have a charge off on a retail credit account (Harold's), and the company is no longer in business. It has not been sold to another company, they simply no longer exist. How can I dispute charges with the OC if they no longer exist? Anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

Like Mcloven said. Your 1st step is to dispute it wth the CRA's as "not being reported correctly". They will try to verify with the OC. Since the OC no longer exists they won't verify. Since the CRA's can't verify with the OC , the CRA's will delete due to the OC not Verifying the account. Try this first, if it doesn't work then look at the 623 dispute method next.

Okay...well I've already disputed the debt as "never late" with the credit bureaus online. I will wait to hear back from them to see how to proceed. I'm still confused though...if the credit bureaus typically do not verify an account verbally but instead use e-oscar, can't they still verify even if the creditor is no longer in business?

Had a similar experience with Freedman's Jewelers. Gone out of business and had a tradeline on my credit report. CRA's reported the account verified, os I called the CRA's and asked just how they verified the account with the OC if they weren't in business anymore, and if they did verify, then who with and at what number. Needless to say shortly thereafter, the tradeline was gone, never to be seen again!

eOscar is just an electronic tradeline verification system. I had a legal agreement with a lender where they provided "filled in" eOscar forms that would immediately delete the tradeline if it ever reappeared.

In any case, if no one is "on the other end of the line" with eOscar when the CRA requests verification, then it won't happen (theoretically) and it should disappear.
