Another question about scores.

I had an over payment on my BAH payments for school. I had to pay it back. My credit score a few days ago was showing a balance on two accounts with the VA.

They report as collection accounts, but they updated to show a zero balance.

They also moved from derog accounts to closed accounts.

How much do these accounts hurt your score even though they show a zero balance, I have 7 of them where I have paid some bills that I owed.

I have three that say paid as agreed, zero balance.

Two say zero balance, but charged off, even though I paid them over a year ago.

And two more that say zero balance but list them as collection accounts.

The US dept of education loan says zero balance, pays as agreed, Date oped 1999, last report date 05/2008. It was paid off in 2008.

How much do these items hurt your score.

I got behind in 07 and 08 because this was when I was forced to take a medical retirement and it took a year or so for me to start receiving my VA disability. I managed to get caught up and since Jan 09 I have been on time every month. Why is this in a derog accounts dont they only look at the last 2 years for scores?

Which score?

They hurt your FICO Bank Card score (the "sucker" score) but they'll probably give you new high interest CC's any way.

They'll have no effect on you FICO New Car score.

They may cost you a little higher interest on your FICO Motgage Score.

Right now my EQ score is 600

the other two I dont know yet. EQ was my worse score but it came up 70 points.
