Hugo
I had a court ordered name change in 2005. I have been contacted by a Junk Debt Buyer for an account that reflects my former surname. How should I respond to them? Also, if i ever get served with a court complaint for an account that has my former surname on it what do I tell the Constable? That I changed my name and it's no longer legal for me to use it?
1stStep
Name changes probably will not have a bearing on your case...ask the millions of now married women sued under their maiden names.
Guest usctrojanalum
The name changed has no bearing. They can sue you under your former name if they chose to.The way should should sue you which would be best for them would be with an FKA.John Smith Formerly Known as David Duchovny
legaleagle
Correct, they'll only claim you changed your name fraudulently in order to evade responsibility to your creditors.
