ReadSS
A week ago I received a letter from Viking Collections re: money owed on an alleged credit card account with Bank of America - issued by FIA card services. This is their initial contact, and 5 days have passed, with no statement by them regarding consumer's right to dispute. I also feel there's other questionable content in this letter. Here's my question - the last 4 digits of the alleged BOA account was listed with debt owed. Underneath that information, in smaller font, there also was a reference to the same debt with a different last 4 digit account number under FIA Card services. What's going on, here? Why would the BOA account number be different from FIA? Shouldn't they be one and the same?
legaleagle
You would think so, but we hear this all the time. It may be some internal accounting thing where they give a new number to a defaulted account. JDBs do this. Make sure the account number on the complaint matches any discovery they send you. If it doesn't, you can have all sorts of fun gving them crap answers. They will object, then you get them in front of a judge and show the different numbers.
