Beachie
I have a 1 year old, $300 dollar phone bill from Verizon. They, the original creditor, are still sending me bills and it's never gone to collections. I can now pay it in full, but I'd like to do a pay-for-delete if I can. Is the pay-for-delete route a possible option in this case? Thank you.
Coltfan1972
It is always possible, but don't expect a company as big as Verizon to jeopardize their contract with the CRA just to help you out. Generally speaking, what you are suggesting would violate the contract with the CRA. Nothing illegal just a private contract between the CRA and Verizon. More importantly to do what you suggest would mean a written agreement. That means time to draft the agreement, get it approved, probably have somebody in the legal dept to look it over, ect.... In other words not worth their time, trouble and possible issues with the CRA. I would give you very bad odds at them agreeing, however, what does it hurt to ask? Usually you get a pay for delete with a junk debt buyer when you are paying a 5k on a debt they paid two hundred bucks for. Obviously a junk debt buyer could care less about contracts or agreements, Verizon is no junk debt buyer, they probably will actually care an honor their word. cinnamngrl
the thing is I have had a couple disputes with vz over the years and they never put the debt on my report. Even before I knew how to respond to collections. there is a federal 2 year SOL on telecommunications. this is one year so that doesn't help. if you can settle this before it gets to your report, that would be best.
