Dispute with EQ just dropped score 20 pts!

Recommended Posts

Okay, is this normal? I just disputed one account last night...and this morning Score Watch alerted me that my EQ score dropped 20 points! And the only reason for it was the TL on that account bieng changed to "consumer disputes - re-investigation in progress".

I'm totally sick now, because I'm attempting to raise the score to buy a house in the next few months...and now it's even lower :( Has anybody else experienced this big of a decrease just from one account? It's been disputed before, and was updated within the last few months, so it's not like it sat thee for years and suddenly updated to lower my score like a new account would.

Am I stuck with this lower score, or does it usually go back up fairly soon?

It's my understanding that any new activity on the account, makes it appear newer than it is. It's the reason you often see people advising not to pay old collection accounts, because a payment can actually drop your score, on an old account.

In other words, pay off a 500.00 four year old charge off to a junk debt buyer, and watch your score drop, yeah makes sense to me.

Even if it is a so called current account disputes will drop the score at least for a while. This was from the fines folks at equifax after I disputed a several year old debt that the company keeps changing the dates on and shows it as charged off last month (every month...they move all lates/charge off up 1 month every month so it looks fresh). Even though I provided them with proof this was happening, just the dispute dropped the score further. My equifax dropped about 100 points when I first started disputed this crap. Now 7 months later with ALL except 1 negative account removed my score is just now back to where it was a year ago...go figure. Last one was a collection added to my report. Dropped the score 25 or so points. Dispute/delete wham bam....score is 15 or so points lower than the day BEFORE the collection showed up.
