lilacbouquet
Since I found this site, my fiancee has gotten interested in monitoring his credit. He had no negative items on his report up until now, but he just found out that Cap One reported him as over the limit in Feb.Was he technically over the limit? Yes. However, he did not spend himself over the limit. A merchant made unauthorized fraudulent charges to his card, which briefly put him over the limit. He immediately disputed the charge and Cap One credited his account, putting him back under the limit. The dispute went through and that amount was never added back to his card.Would a goodwill letter to Cap One likely result in them removing the negative information? He has never made a late payment or missed a payment. The negative info made his score drop by 36 points. He did file complaints with the FTC and PA Bureau of Consumer Protection, so he can provide case numbers and copies of the disputed information.I just hate for his score to suffer because some jerk charged his credit card without authorization. kittymamma
I would think it wouldnt hurt to give it a try.....as they did fix the problem with his account, they should be willing to fix the credit report too.....but then again you never know what these people will and wont do..... It totally wasn't his fault. He doesn't even usually get close to the limit, but we went away for Christmas and charged our plane tickets, car rental, etc. on the card because it gives us rental insurance and cash back rewards. We've paid some of it off since then, but that doesn't help with the "over limit" issue.
