essexjet Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 I have a judgement questionI have a judgement from the state of California for unemployment checks they wanted back...long story. The judgement was entered in March of 2010 and I just pulled my credit report today and my score has gone up because now it has been two years. My question is that I want to pay this judgement and when I do, will it report new again and my score go down?Just as a reference, I pulled my credit scores and report on March 30th EX530 EQ519 TU516 and today (4-7-12) and they are EX551 EQ527 TU546 without doing any disputes as my letters just went out on 4-5-12.
1stStep Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 The judgment will not re-report. It will stay on your CR until 7.5 from the date of judgment elapses...
NeverServed Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 But if I'm correct they can refile it. And get it extended for however long.
essexjet Posted April 8, 2012 Author Report Posted April 8, 2012 But if I'm correct they can refile it. And get it extended for however long.Would that happen if it doesn't get paid? I am willing to to pay the Judgement.
1stStep Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 In California, a judgment is good for 10 years and can be refiled 1 additional time for 10 years.

Coltfan1972 Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 That's pretty normal for just about any state. In fact, other states it's even longer. Have you been contacted about this judgement? If not, and if you have self control, why don't you put the money each month you would pay on the judgement socked away. Then when you get a good sum, offer a lump sum to settle. You could probably make it all go away for 10K

So my plan is to pay this judgement, wait a few months then try to dispute with the CRA's in hopes to get a deletion. Sound good???????
NeverServed Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 It most likely will not get deleted. It with either say. Settled for less if they take a settlement. Or paid. It is hard to get it removed because then they have to file paperwork with the court. To vacate the judgement if I'm correct and that costs them more money. Judgement is harder to get it knocked off. And yes interest latefees etc will keep making it go up
Coltfan1972 Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 So my plan is to pay this judgement, wait a few months then try to dispute with the CRA's in hopes to get a deletion. Sound good???????Well it's hard to say you should not pay a judgment if you have the money and are willing to pay. However, 99% chance it won't be coming off your record. It public record and the easiest thing to verify there is. Your dispute will just come back verified. I really would put the money back and then wait until you had a large amount, then if contacted offer a lump sum settlement.
Guest summer girl Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 I'm new here and kinda embarrassed to say I know very little about my credit compared to some you other members! I just started trying to fix things on my credit report after a divorce and remarriage 10 yrs ago. An item that was not settled in my divorce was a credit card for Sears...it was in just my name. It was bought by Mersserli and Kramer and according to a court document I can see online, I apparently didn't answer a summons. Now what? That was back in Aug 2007. I want to start paying on this debt but don't want to contact them for fear of some type of garnishment of my wages. Any suggestions?
