SHELBY, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Shelby say they arrested a woman over the weekend after she squeezed a man's testicles out of his scrotum.

Joyce Maxine Gregory, 35, is charged with malicious castration and assault inflicting serious bodily injury, according to Shelby Police Chief Jeff Ledford.

Police say Gregory got into an argument with an older man Saturday morning. When he went outside to call 911 she followed him and grabbed his scrotum.

The man ran to a nearby rescue squad building for help.

Police were sent to the residence on Bowman Street to arrest Gregory. When she was placed in the patrol car, she pulled down her pants and urinated in the backseat.

Gregory's bond was set at $20,000.

That's actually a crime on the books in NC?! This means that it's happened often enough to not just put it under another criminal charge, such as aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm. I'm not ever going to NC!

Here's the statute:

§ 14‑28. Malicious castration.

If any person, of malice aforethought, shall unlawfully castrate any other person, or cut off, maim or disfigure any of the privy members of any person, with intent to murder, maim, disfigure, disable or render impotent such person, the person so offending shall be punished as a Class C felon

Seriously, what kinds of events occurred to prompt somebody in NC's legislature to stand up and say "You know, I think that we have a problem that needs to be addressed specifically and directly. Our other assault/battery statutes aren't good enough to cover this issue." Granted, it probably was a mostly male legislature that passed such a law, and us males do tend to be protective of our junk, but still. I would think that other laws would be good enough to protect my privy member.

Blind dates got out of hand, no pun intended.
