Guest lostfan17
My parents are being called every single day multiple times a day by Asset Acceptance for about a month now. My parent's don't speak English, so they just never ever pick up. That's their rule with unknown calls (if it's important they'll leave a message). They just thought it was political or telemarketing. They told me it recently, and I googled the company. That's when I found out it was debt collectors. I asked them if they owe anything, they don't. Neither of them have credit cards, and neither do I. I have student loans, but my grace period hasn't ended yet so it can't be that (just graduated). Either way, my parents are elderly and really just want the calls to end. We really think it can't be any of our debts. What would the best course of action? Should I answer for them? If they just ignore it the whole time, will we eventually get sued? Thanks guys, appreciate it!!
1stStep
Pick up the phone and find out - Asset and other JDBs are notorious for calling the wrong phone numbers all the time... I've gotten calls for other people on a couple of my lines. If it is for them, after they've made their initial contact with you, they will have to mail a dunning letter to you and give you the 30 days to dispute and demand validation. kutuzov
You can also just call Asset and ask why they are calling the number, they will should tell you, just make sure you call from the same number they are calling, so they don't get a new number to bug you more, but if they call all the time maybe tell your parents to answer and see what they want, if they don't speak english but do spanish I'm sure they will call back with someone in spanish, if they speak some other language probably they won't, just see what they want.
