SashaM
So I just pulled my CR from Transunion and there is a new tradeline on there and I have NO clue where it came from! Here it is UNIVERSAL FIDELITY LP #XXXXXXXXXPlaced for collection: 08/27/2012Responsibility: Individual AccountAccount Type: Open AccountLoan Type: COLLECTIONAGENCY/ATTORNEYBalance: $120Date Updated: 08/28/2012Original Amount: $120Original Creditor: CAPITAL MV DIRECTBRANDS (Retail)Pay Status: >In Collection<Remarks: >PLACED FOR COLLECTION<Estimated month and year that this item will be removed: 01/2019I was so pissed! No clue what Capital MV direct brands is so I did some digging on the internet. Turns out it is Columbia House DVD and or they own Columbia house DVD or something. Well I did have a Columbia House DVD account like 8 years ago!! On a may TU credit report, I had an account from National Recovery Agency (see below)NATIONAL CREDIT SOLUTION #XXXXXXXXBalance: $135Date Updated: 06/18/2011Original Amount: $120Original Creditor: COLUMBIA HOUSE DVD(Retail)Pay Status: >In Collection<Account Type: Open AccountResponsibility: Individual AccountLoan Type: COLLECTION AGENCY/ATTORNEYDate Placed for Collection: 08/19/2010Remarks: >PLACED FOR COLLECTION<Estimated month and year that this item will be removed: 02/2015 Are they re-aging this debt? And what should be my course of action? i sent an online dispute to TU but they don't allow you to give any details so I just selected I disputed the debt as not being valid any longer. Is there any thing else I should do? I know this debt can't be anything new! I havent paid for anything with credit in like the last 3 years except for financing my car! Cash everything. BV80
Have you checked to see what's being reported on Equifax and Experian? In a case like this, a written dispute through the mail might be best so that you offer a more detailed explanation. Check the CRA websites to see what's required for a written dispute. Does either Columbia House or Universal report a date of first delinquency?
SashaM
I pulled Equifax and Experian about 2 weeks ago and they both have nothing about the debt on there at all, either from May when I pulled them before or now. It looks like this is just Transunion. No date of first delinquency, no last payment date, nothing that would tell me the age of the debt that I could use as proof that this is zombie debt. Is there a standard dispute I should make for a case like this or just wing it? I was thinking to just keep it short in writing basically saying this debate is no longer valid and is past the SOL. BV80
You could keep it short and to the point. If both entries are based on the same account, it would appear Universal either purchased it from someone or is collecting for Columbia. National Credit is no longer updating, so they're out of the picture. But yes, it appears University is either reporting the wrong account or they're attempting to reage the Columbia account. Based on the date of deletion in National Credit's entry (2/2015) , it appears National claimed the date of first delinquency or last payment on the account was somewhere around the middle of 2007 to the beginning of 2008. Does that sound correct? That's something you might want to look into just in case.Dispute with TU before contacting Universal. After you dispute with TU, if Universal verifies their entry, I would contact them directly and dispute the account. I would tell them I don't recognize Capital MV. (You need to make sure that Capital MV and Columbia are the same account.) Don't mention Columbia to them. If you hear from them and it is the Columbia account, I'd write them and tell them that based upon the date of deletion they are reporting inaccurate information. They can either correct it or remove the entry. If it's not the Columbia account or you don't hear from them, contact them again and simply tell them it's not your account and demand they delete. Whether it's the Columbia account or not, if they fail to cooperate, get an attorney. There might be a NACA attorney in your area.National Association of Consumer Advocates | Consumer Protection Advocates and Attorneys - Help for Consumers
