Ruffian
My credit report is showing where three of my cc accounts were sold.I received a letter from a collection agency stating that I owed X and if I do not respond in XX days they assume debt is valid.Threatening to send to an attorney in my state.Should I request a debt validation at this time? or wait until I hear from a local attorney? 1stStep
Send a DV always - preserve your rights under the FDCPA.
S. Louis Blisko
You definitely send the dispute letter now certified mail return receipt requested. You may also want to consider sending a 623 letter through the bureaus as well also certified. If the debts are older (3+ years) the odds are good you'll see some improvement. Ruffian
Send a DV always - preserve your rights under the FDCPA.I am always hesitant to do this as it lets them know that they have a correct address for me. They may never contact a local Attorney.....

They may never contact a local Attorney.....So what if they know your address is a valid one. If you are trying to hide, let me be the first to say that it does not work. Better to be up front and ready for the fight than to hide in the bushes.Send a DV and then go from there. Even if they have a correct address, they still have to follow the law. TomnTex
Would you rather they get a DEFAULT judgement against you becausethey don't have a correct address that can last 20 years or longer with garnishment of your wages or a levy of your bank account? It's up to you, which way would you rather go?
