Buried in Medical - LOST at Words/options

I recently got a bill for 2K in ER bills couple months ago, and I JUST received almost $20K in ER for another stay from earlier this month.

I plan on talking to patient resources tomorrow, but I want to know all my options and best way to proceed.

I definitely do not plan on doing this anymore and am kicking myself for not having health insurance as it would have been much easier to just take care of it that way.

Now, whats done is done, i definitely will be more careful.

Is this worth declaring BK for?

I have been unemployed last two years, and recently got a job. I do not want my employer to find out, I am on a 1099 and create my own business and leads through sales and am just starting to get some traction so i know i can do a good job.

However I am already in debt and paying off credit card debt from college, and do not know what to do.

any advice would be helpful (btw, I think this is the right forum to be posting on?)

Debt over 20 k, and job is commission, fairly just starting out? I would seriously consider it, but I guess it would depend on your goals for the future. Bk will stay with you for at least 10 years, but after 2 you can usually get credit. Personal decision, write all your pros on one side, all the cons on the other, sometimes that will help when you make a decision.

Thanks for your response shellieh98!

I will find out tomorrow after speaking with the patient resources at the hospital tomorrow what kind of payment plan i can get on and any other options i have.

Will a bk be known to all employers or is it held confidential?

BK is a public record and if anyone wants to know, they can find it.

Unless a security clearence is involved or, your required to be bonded I doubt bit'll have any affect on your employment.

If your just getting up off the mat and have a basic safety net in place, this may well be the ideal time to file bk on the mediclal debt, cc's and any other unsecured debt.

Call and ask them about applying for charity care, being unemployed for 2 years I'd think you would qualify for a significant amount of the bill being written off.

Oh, yes, that little "pickle"

I definitely want to give this some thought and let it marinate a bit in my mind.

Thank you for your thoughts

I will certainly exhaust all avenues in working with the hospital and any additional care I can get.

I appreciate your response, I had gone through some family crisis and other drama, but I am solid and back in action so even though I was quite shocked and uneasy when i first received this information I am confident I will bounce back. There will definitely be some challenges, but I am not gonna let a few dollars, or 20 thousand of them for that matter deter me!
