The hot topics are pretty much the same, I guess. We've had some consumer wins, a few losses, and a couple of appeals. In Haddad v. Alexander, Zelmanski, Danner & Fioritto, PLLC (2014), the 6th Circuit recently set some new precedent for FDCPA validation that goes into a little more detail than other courts have done in the past.

CIC misses you! I hope you can drop in more often. As for the cases, so much seems to depend on the judge. Sometimes they are creditor-friendly and rule accordingly; sometimes they are debtor-friendly and rule accordingly. But I guess it has always been that way. Washington OP's don't seem to be doing that well in small claims court, as I recall.

Since you've been doing a lot of BK lately, it might good to have a discussion about the strategy involved in whether or not a debtor should file BK.
