help -bad authorized user account

Good Afternoon All! For the last 7 years I have been an authorized user on my Dad's acct. It is showing on my report as 17 years of great history, up until last year my Dad battled cancer and had a 30 day late, and he has continued keeping his utilization on a 5K balance at 90%. I have 2 of my own credit cards with small balances under $500, and 3 other negative items, that I am fighting. My question is should i delete the authorized user account and lose the history or leave it as is? Thanks for your help.
