There is no magical wording. They will either do it or they won't Who is the JDB? PRA and Midland steadfastly REFUSE to do PFD.
fisthardcheese
How about a dispute/MOV to delete?
LawKitty
I find many companies and collection agencies are refusing to do pay for delete. Maybe in the past it was a viable option but I haven't had a single one in years agree to do a pay for delete. They all spout the same line about how they are 'obligated' to report correct information and it would be a violation for them to report otherwise, etc. etc. Maybe someone has used it against them in a lawsuit (showing someone has reported incorrect information even if it's to benefit the consumer to show that a company has reported incorrect information) and that's why they aren't keen on doing it anymore. I'm not sure, but I just don't see it happening much lately. Paying it off may hopefully prevent a lawsuit from the JDB, but in some ways it's better to get sued by a JDB, and force them to delete it as part of a settlement through court. You could also dispute it directly with the credit bureau, but that may not get it removed if they verify it's correct.
PhilDanley
If the JDB does a PFD for you, Macy's will continue to show on your credit report as a charge off. Since FICO9 scoring no longer dings a paid collections account, I think PFD is a moot point for credit score.
