I have a gas bill from a place i rented in Ausin Texas. The collection agency posted it to my credit report, I want to remove. I am not sure how to, i have had others ones removed threw letters etc. The gas bill is mine however i had 3 roommates, when i contacted the apt complex they referred me to the gas company, the credit agency referred me to Apt complex. I looked at credit karma and it showed the apt complex as the creditor. How do send a proof of debt letter to see whats going on. How do i deal with this case specifically is their a free a rent help for texas i can contact.

thanks

You can try to remove this the same way:  pay for delete.  You send an offer of payment in exchange for deleting the trade line.  While it isn't impossible now that consumers are rebounding on credit many creditors are refusing to do it.  There is no legal way to force them to agree to delete a valid trade line.  ALL you can do is negotiate to try and have it come off.

WHO was on the lease?  If it was only you then you would have to go after your former roommates for their share.   If all of you were responsible jointly and together (which is how it is on a group lease) then it is probably listed on everyone's credit reports.

You send a DV letter to the collection agency since they are reporting and make sure to invoke Texas Finance Code 392.

You can try legal aid if you qualify but this isn't a rental issue it is a utility issue and as you stated earlier the bill is yours and you owe it.

What should i do about this, i know i don't owe 65 for my bill.

Actually you might.  Even if the last gas bill was half that when it wasn't paid they can tack on interest and a late fee.

Ask the apartment complex, the collection agency and the gas company for a copy of the bill.  Make sure each one of them knows you have sent the same request to all 3.  ONE of them has to cough up a copy of the bill.
