How to handle 2 year old $175 medical debt on CR

Hi there! I've been lurking but I keep getting conflicting information /:

I'm also fairly young (21) so I think a lot of it is flying over my head.

I opened a dispute with Transunion already under

"I don't know what this is" because I'm unfamiliar with what this could be far and have received no letters or mail about it, and I wanted to open disputes with Equifax & Experian but neither site is letting me access my full CR and is asking for me to request a physical copy. I move around a lot so it's possible they're getting red flags from all my different addresses?

Should I contact the collections agency or the original creditor for validation? I'm in NY so waiting out the SOL isn't a viable option. I could pay it but I've head paying doesn't remove it from the CR and to try and offer 20%  + deletion, but I honestly have no knowledge of why this would be on my report at all. Any guidance would be amazing!

Did you have blood work done at a doctor's visit or well women's exam stuff?  If so, there are usually lab charges for the testing even if your physician's office collects the samples.

I would start with the lab that sent the file to collections.  If you really didn't have any labs done 2 years ago then sending the lab a dispute letter stating that there is a collection on your report(s) and you do not recall having any lab work done and would like to find out what this collection is in reference to.

It is possible they have you mixed up with another consumer of a similar name who did get the care or that you did have it done and it has been long enough you don't recall.  If it is not your debt and is removed:  great.  If it IS your debt post back to this thread what the results of the investigation are and we can help you proceed from there.

Call the 3 CRAs and ask for a free copy of your report to be mailed to you due to adverse action.

Once you get the reports, you can dispute the collection account by mail.

Since the collection agency has not contacted you, there is no legal basis to request validation at this point.

@MissMoon

This is a guide to NY law about medical debt.  It explains your rights and ways to  address issues.
