Paying CA with ACH, cashier's check or personal check?

I've already agreed to a settlement amount with NCI, OC is Chase. I've called Chase and verified that they are the ones handling it. They are sending me it writing, should arrive soon. On the phone they wanted me to call back when I receive the letter, and do a one time payment through ACH.

Is this a bad idea, should I send a check or cashier's check instead?

There are legitimate collection agencies out there.  I've paid a few collection agencies by personal check when they were collecting for OCs and have never had a problem.

When a legitimate agency is collecting for an OC, it's not a scam.  If a CA were to try something underhanded, not only would they be guilty of FDCPA violations, they could also violate state consumer laws.  Not only you, but the state could go after them and they could lose their license and/or be fined.

However, do what makes you comfortable.
