craftymom
My husband has at least 30 collection accounts from USCB on his Experian report. Most are small but a few for $80 and $100. They were for deductible amounts for labs, appts, etc. We are now attempting to clean up our credit and not sure what to do with all of these. What is the best way? wernda1234
Welcome to the boards! To confirm, the accounts are in collections and on his credit report - nothing is in litigation or showing as a judgement? Has he received any communication from USCB? Has he attempted to validate any of the debts with them?
craftymom
I honestly cannot remember receiving anything from them. I know we received notices and final notices from Kaiser. No litigation or judgment. We have not attempted to validate as we just started this journey.
wernda1234
The reason I asked is that, under the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA), you can request validation within 30 days of receiving the initial notice of the debt from the collections agency. My suggestion is to contact the agency (USCB?) and get whatever information you can from them. If the debt is owned and accurate, I recommend contacting them to see if you can work out a payment plan or even see if they will discount the balance in order to get these cleared as quickly as possible. Clydesmom
If these are deductible or out of.pocket amounts after insurance it cannot be discounted. That is a violation of the contract with yout insurer as it is illegal rebating.

craftymom
So regardless these will stay on the report?
WhoCares1000
If they are valid accounts, they will stay on your credit report until the SOL has run out. You can pay on them which would change the account status to paid and that will help your score (the JDBs had FICO change the algorithm years ago after realizing that the old algorithm made it better to not pay on charged off accounts that JDBs had). That said, I have 2 questions. What is the total amount and why have you not paid these medical bills? If you are saying that there are 30 total and the highest one is $100, that means that your max owed is $3000 which is less than my yearly out of pocket max.
