shirley carnley
What can be done about a credit agency report that has blocked me from opening a SAVINGS account in a high paying interest bank where I applied. My credit report with the three major credit reporting agencies have given me an excellent rating (826). All my credit accounts are current. I moved once (two years ago 3 miles away) but owned and still own a house that I lived in for 48 years. I have many assets, home ownership, multiple savings accounts, stocks and a CD. and I cannot imagine why I was denied by this bank. Could my age have anything to do with it? I am 81 years old. Does anyone have any suggestions. Should I retain a lawyer?
Brotherskeeper
@shirley carnley Here's some info on the bank reporting agencies in the link below, including how to get free reports. It starts on page 21 from CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU | 2019 List of Consumer Reporting Companies Check and bank screening Banks and credit unions use check and bank screening reports to help decide whether to offer consumers a checking account or to cash a check. For example, you may have negative information in your report if you had a checking account before and you have an unpaid negative balance on that account, such as from an overdraft that you have not repaid and the account was closed or if you were suspected of fraud related to the account. If you have been a victim of bank and/or check writing fraud, or have had prior difficulties opening or closing a bank account (such as being denied an account), review your check and bank screening report(s) and dispute them if inaccurate. https://files.consumerfinance.gov/f/documents/cfpb_consumer-reporting-companies-list.pdf

You should have been sent a letter stating what reason(s) they were denying you the account and what agency they pulled from. Typically it is either Chex Systems or EWS (Early Warning Systems) for bank accounts. Start there find out why you were denied and what is on that report. If there are inaccuracies you deal with those next.
shirley carnley
Thank you for the suggestions. I did send am email to Chex Systems asking for a copy of the report AND a letter to the high interest bank.
