rburns515
Recently I sent a validation letter to NCB Collection Agency. Here is their response... "We have received your dispute notice concerning your account with us. After conducting an investigation, we have been unable to substantiate the allegations in your dispute. Should you have additional relevant information or documentation not previously submitted, please mail these items to us along with your name, address and account number at the address listed below as soon as possible. Sincerely, NCB Dispute Investigation Department" What does this mean? Is this a failure to validate the debt and admiting it? What should my next step be? Thanks so much for all your help! Under what circumstances did you send your request? Was it after receiving a debt collection letter? Or was it because you found the collection on your credit report? Also, what exactly did you state in your letter?
rburns515
It was after I found the collection on my credit report. I ask them to provide the following... • What the money you say I owe is for. • Explain and show me how you calculated what you say I owe. • Provide me with copies of any papers that show I agreed to pay what you say I owe. • Provide a verification or copy of any judgment if applicable. • Identify the original creditor. • Prove the Statute of Limitations has not expired on this account, show me that you are licensed to collect in my state; and provide me with your license numbers and Registered Agent. Also told them if they provide the proper documentation as requested I will require at least 30 days to investigate the information and during such time all collection activity much cease and desist. The letter was sent on 10/26/2019, and sent certified return receipt mail.

A debt collector is only required to provide validation if the request is sent within 30 days of receiving an initial communication containing the 30-day validation notice. Once receiving a timely request, a debt collector must cease communication until it validates the debt. Finding an entry on your credit report is not an initial communication. The collection agency was not required to respond to you at all. Because you sent your letter after finding the collection on your credit report, the collection agency treated it as a credit report dispute of possible inaccurate information. That’s why they said they need more information or documentation. BTW, the validation request that you sent is an old one that has been floating around the internet for years. It makes demands that debt collectors are not required to provide in order to validate a debt.

This is their standard response to a dispute letter. I have found NCB to be a relatively non-aggressive collection agency. They don't sue. But they do put a negative trade line on your credit report. If you are trying to clean up your credit, paying them is probably the only way to remove it.
rburns515
Much appreciated. I agree as it's not very much. Just didn't know it was there until I check my credit report. Thanks!
